Now you can make a delicious Chili Oil at home with this simple recipe. In just 10-15 minutes you can have this authentic Chili Oil that is sure to rival any restaurant. No doubt this will become a new staple at your house.
The flavor combinations are endless. As long as you have the base ingredients: pepper flakes, oil, and ginger you will surely have a delicious oil. Although, I will say, the other spices add another level of flavor to the oil that you are sure to love.
The uses for this oil are limitless. We add it to pasta dishes, chicken, fish, ranch dressing, guacamole, and top our pizza with it. Comment below your favorite way to use this delicious oil.
We don't have an asian market near us so I ordered my spices from Amazon. They arrived quickly and added a nice flavor to the oil.
Heat one liter of oil. Add bay leaves, star anise, crushed cardamon, sliced ginger, green onions, and red onions. Be sure it doesn't boil too high.
Low boil for 5 minutes on med/low. Turn off the stove and let cool for 5 minutes.
Once it is cool, strain mixture into a bowl removing all of the spices and onions from the oil.
Next, add the dry chili flakes to the hot oil and stir.
Then, spoon the Chili oil mixture into jars and allow to cool completely before closing the lids. You will notice the chilis will turn the oil a beautiful red color.
Chili Oil Recipe
Ingredients:
1 chopped red onion
6 pieces star anise
1 large piece of ginger sliced
10 cardamon pods broken
10 bay leaves
2 cups dried szechuan chili flakes are authentic but you can also use crushed red pepper that is easily found at any grocery store.
5 stalks green onion
1 liter of oil canola or peanut
Directions:
1. Heat oil til it starts to bubble.
2. Add bay leaves, star anise, crushed cardamon, sliced ginger
add green onions, and red onion. Make sure it doesn’t boil too high.
3. Low boil for 5 mins on med/low
4. Turn off stove and cool for 5 mins
5. Once it is cool strain mixture into a bowl removing aromatics from the oil.
6. Add dry chili flakes to the hot oil mixture
7. stir to mix
8. Spoon chili oil mixture into jars using a funnel.
9. Allow to cool completely before closing the lids
You’ll notice the chilis will turn the oil a red color.
The jars will keep at room temperature for months.
To serve: Stir oil to re-mix the chillies and spoon over pasta dishes, fish, chicken, pizza, salads, tacos, guacamole, queso. Really the possibilities are endless. Limited only by your imagination.
