Parks and Recreation
Parks and Rec was originally supposed to be an Office spin-off. Created by the same producer, Greg Daniels, Parks and Rec rivals the comedy of its sister show. Many Office lovers kept their distance from Parks and Rec (including myself), for quite some time and called it a wannabe or copycat. But, let me tell you, this show captured my heart and stands on its own as a workplace sitcom.
Gossip Girl
I know, I know. You’ve probably binged Gossip Girl on more than one occasion. And if you haven’t, what rock have you been living under? That being said, you also probably have not watched it in a hot second. And let me tell you, the rollercoaster of a drama is even better than I remembered it. This past Christmas Break, I got the flu (yay!), and restarted Gossip Girl as a desperate attempt to keep my mind occupied. It did the trick and more, so that’s why its making this binge-worthy list.
Schitts Creek
Schitts Creek is another sitcom created by Daniel and Eugen Levy who dared to ask the question “If the Kardasians lost all of their money, would they still be…. The Kardasians?” The show features a unique spin where you get to watch a family worth millions move to a middle-of-nowhere town and try to scrape by while still holding on to their wealthy habits. Additionally, my favorite fact about the show is… the writers and creators, Dan and Eugene, are actually the two actors who portray the main characters. Schitts Creek is lighthearted and refreshing and a totally binge-worthy show.
Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls is easily one of my favorite all-time TV shows. It’s whole-hearted and innocent jam packed with sarcasm and wit: the total package. The show is centered around an incredibly close mother-daughter relationship between the two main characters; the kind that will make you want to call your mom just to check in and tell her that you love her.
How to Get Away with Murder
How to Get Away with Murder is a legal thriller that will have you clicking the next episode every single time. Main character, Annalise Keating, is a law professor in Philadelphia where she and five of her top students get tangled up in a murder plot. Honestly, I don’t think that it’s even possible to just casually watch HTGAWM. You have to binge watch or you’re going to lie awake at night wondering what happens next.
Scandal
After episode one, you’re hooked… or at least I was. I would give anything to be a gladiator in a suit. Kerry Washington potrays Olivia Pope, a kicka$$ attorney who could start wars with her words. The show follows Olivia and the rest of her firm as they solve “unwinnable” cases and begin their involvement with White House affairs. Scandal is another one of those where it will be impossible to watch just one episode at a time.
Queer Eye
Queer Eye follows the Fab Five as they share their lifestyle and fashion gifts with guests on the show. The makeover (“make better”) team consists of food and wine extraordinaire, Antonio Porowski; fashion extraordinaire, Tan Fance; culture and lifestyle expert, Karamo Brown; design extraordinaire, Bobby Berk; and grooming extraordinaire, Jonathan Van Ness. So go ahead and grab a tissue box or two. It’s going to be a long night of watching these men transform guest into the best versions of themselves.
You
You… The name just sounds ominous and creepy. And well, its fitting. You is a psychological thriller about a serial killer/stalker who has a day job as a… bookkeeper?? Just goes to show these guys can be anywhere. Penn Badgley (many of you love or hate him from Gossip Girl) portrays the stalker who you will somehow start to root for. You is a refreshingly new twist on psychological TV where you connect with the other side of the horror story for once. Just make sure if any of your friends ask you what you’re watching, you can’t answer with just “You.” Make sure to provide some extra details in order to avoid sounding as creepy as the show.
Reign
This show has actually made me believe that I was meant to be born into 15th-century France. Until, I remember that indoor plumbing wasn’t around back then and all those thoughts disappear. Reign follows a young Queen Mary (yes, THE Bloody Mary), also known as Mary Queen of Scotts as she transitions from a life of hiding from the English, who want her head, to her new rule as future Queen of France. Although Reign is based on real people and events, it has been embellished and romanticized to turn a history lesson into a binge-worthy TV show.
Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds is not your run-of-the-mill procedural crime drama. It follows a group of FBI profilers who are members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit as they solve various cases. With major twists and mind-blowing plots, Criminal Minds has set itself apart as one of cable’s most-watched TV shows of all-time. Each episode features a new case and new personal struggles for the cast, so grab some popcorn and get ready to hit the “Yes, I’m still here” button.
